The Brewster family, Wester Borland Farm
The Brewster family milked cows many years ago and having spent a generation farming beef cattle son Alan was keen to move back into dairying.
In 2015 Alan and his father, Willie, bought 230 cows and invested in a 16/32 EuroClass 800 herringbone swingover parlour with Metatron P21 milk metres and the Apollo automatic dipping and flushing system from GEA and installed by DairyFlow.
Willie said: “We chose a GEA parlour because of the Westfalia reputation, which in our opinion produces the best parlours, and the one we have is absolutely brilliant.
“We wanted to milk twice a day with one person and having the Apollo helps with this as we don’t need to post dip, the milking process is absolutely flowing and both the cows and milker come out of the parlour without stress.
“We are able to milk 100 cows an hour with one person in parlour which is ideal.
“The Apollo system also means cell counts and bactoscans are good and we rarely get cases of mastitis.
“Working with DairyFlow has been first class. They worked hard and made a really tidy job.
“We are pleased with both DairyFlow and the equipment and would recommend both to any others looking to invest in a new parlour in Scotland.”
